On our third day of practice, we went to one of the most historical monuments in Bukhara Sayyid Po Bandikusho Mausoleum also called as Sayyid Poband Mausoleum. First of all, we started our conversation with its history and location.
Sayyid Po Bandikusho, also known as Hazrat Said Abulhasan Po Band, is a revered Sufi saint whose mausoleum and mosque are located in Bukhara, Uzbekistan. His legacy is deeply intertwined with the spiritual and architectural heritage of the region. Hazrat Said Abulhasan Po Band passed away in 395 AH (1004 CE). He is believed to be a descendant of Imam Hasan ibn Ali, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, tracing his lineage through nine generations. This noble ancestry, combined with his spiritual influence, has made his shrine a significant site for pilgrims and locals alike.
The title "Po Bandikusho" translates to "Sayyid the Rat-Catcher," a moniker rooted in local lore. According to tradition, Sayyid Po Bandikusho was credited with protecting Bukhara from plagues and pests, further cementing his status as a guardian figure in the community. The Sayyid Po Bandikusho complex, though modest compared to Bukhara's grand monuments, radiates a unique spiritual energy. The structure showcases traditional Central Asian architectural elements: A domed roof and aged brickwork that narrate tales of centuries past. Intricate geometric tilework and ornamental brick designs. An atmospheric courtyard adorned with ancient chinar trees.
