Boqiy Buxoro

On the eighth day of our practice, my group and I visited Boqiy Buxoro. We spent about three hours exploring the site, talking about its history, location, and many interesting details. The monument is vast and remarkable, filled with many hidden stories and captivating mysteries.

Boqiy Buxoro is a modern cultural and ethnographic tourism center being developed on a 32.6-hectare site in the historic center of Bukhara, Uzbekistan. The project is managed by the Bukhara regional government and is scheduled for completion between 2024 and 2026. The total estimated cost of the project is around 470 million US dollars.

Main Components of the Project

Ethnographic Museum: Exhibits showcasing the rich history and culture of the Bukhara region. Historical Neighborhoods: Areas reflecting traditional Bukhara architecture and urban planning styles. Craftsmen Workshops: Studios for traditional arts such as jewelry making, gold embroidery, wood carving, blacksmithing, pottery, carving, and knife making.

Traditional Drainage Systems: Water supply systems characteristic of the Bukhara oasis, including canals and pools. Tea Houses and National Cuisine Restaurants: Places where visitors can taste local dishes.

Construction and Public Opinion

During construction, several existing government buildings, including regional and city administration offices, the prosecutor's office, the compulsory execution bureau, and School No. 2 in Bukhara, are planned to be demolished. Since the project's announcement, some public figures have voiced concerns, emphasizing that construction near the historic core and buffer zone of Bukhara might damage the city’s cultural heritage.

🗺 Location and Purpose

The Boqiy Buxoro ethnographic park is located in the heart of Bukhara. Its main goal is to ease tourist traffic in the old city center and to create modern tourism infrastructure. The project also aims to improve living conditions for residents while preserving Bukhara’s cultural heritage.

To sum up, today’s trip was truly enjoyable and filled with unforgettable moments. Although I had visited this monument before, this time felt more special and engaging because I shared the experience with my wonderful groupmates. Spending time together and having meaningful discussions with them is something I truly cherish.
